Glossary

Sources of Emissions
Marine - OGV
Marine Ocean Going Vessels
Marine - Harbour
Marine Vessels that operate within the port marine jurisdiction (harbour) such as tubgoats and ferries.
Marine
Any vessel, operating in the port marine jurisdiction, at anchor, fuelling or at berth.
CHE
Cargo Handling Equipment - both mobile and stationary sources.
Onroad
Locomotives, including national, regional and local rail lines.
Rail
Buildings and other administrative type operations that are part of terminal / port operations that do not directly handle the transfer of goods.
Admin
Buildings and other administrative type operations that are part of terminal / port operations that do not directly handle the transfer of goods.
Inventory Boundaries
Regional Area Boundary
Regional boundary, capturing activity across a large geographical area. Not generally part of a port-based inventory, but may be of interest, depending on population and environmental pressures.
Marine Waterway
An area beyond the port marine jurisdiction, where vessels tend to operate on defined routes. A port may have influence on marine activities in this region. Generally not included in port-based inventories, but could be.
Port Marine Jurisdiction
A marine area that is regulated by a port authority, encompassing anchor locations, fuelling depots, berths, and other marine support facilities. Usually well-defined.
(Port) Land-based Jurisdiction
Land areas managed by the port authority, generally not accessible to the public, adjacent to the marine terminals.
Berth
Vessel dockside locations whre active loading/unloading of ships occurs. A marine terminal/facility may have several berths.
Terminal/Facility
The land area managed by a Terminal operator. May be port-owned land or privately held land, or a mix of the two.
Intermodal Facility
A location (on or off port grounds) that facilitates the transfer of goods from one mode of transport to another. An indermodal area may include rail switch yards, truck yards, trailer swaps, etc)
Captures the Marine activities occurring within the bounds of the Port Marine Jurisdiction, specifically transit, anchoring, manoeuvring and berthing for both OGV and harbour vessels
Captures the Marine activities occurring at the dock side location, specifically use of auxilliary engines while loading/unloading
Captures the Land side activities during the transfer of goods between marine, rail and trucking modes that occur within the Terminal/facilities bounds.
Captures the land side activities within the area between the terminal/facility boundary and the port land-based jurisdiction. This could include service roads and/or an intermodal facility within the port land-based jurisdiction.
(alternate)
Captures the landside activities extended out to an Intermodal Facility located beyond the port land-based jurisdiction.
