Regional Area Boundary
Regional boundary, capturing activity across a large geographical area. Not generally part of a port-based inventory, but may be of interest, depending on population and environmental pressures.
Marine Waterway
An area beyond the port marine jurisdiction, where vessels tend to operate on defined routes. A port may have influence on marine activities in this region. Generally not included in port-based inventories, but could be.
Port Marine Jurisdiction
A marine area that is regulated by a port authority, encompassing anchor locations, fuelling depots, berths, and other marine support facilities. Usually well-defined.
(Port) Land-based Jurisdiction
Land areas managed by the port authority, generally not accessible to the public, adjacent to the marine terminals.
Berth
Vessel dockside locations whre active loading/unloading of ships occurs. A marine terminal/facility may have several berths.
Terminal/Facility
The land area managed by a Terminal operator. May be port-owned land or privately held land, or a mix of the two.
Intermodal Facility
A location (on or off port grounds) that facilitates the transfer of goods from one mode of transport to another. An indermodal area may include rail switch yards, truck yards, trailer swaps, etc)
